Nivea Micellar Water – 2 Week Review

I was sent the new Nivea Perfect & Radiant Micellar water from Rubybox to test and review for two weeks 🙂

As I always say, I adore Rubybox because to them, and myself included, honesty is the best policy.

To be completely honest with you, this was one of those all rounder products, in fact there are only two slight downfalls for me, when it comes to the new Nivea Micellar water;

  • The smell – As someone who absolutely LOVES Nivea products, my heart was a little broken when I smelt the product, and to my dismay, it smelt NOTHING like Nivea. Let’s face it, Nivea definitely has their own signature scent, it’s like Coca Cola has their very own red. Unfortunately their Micellar water does not.
  • The other downfall, probably the most important one for me, is that it does not remove waterproof mascara (which is literally ALL I wear).

Where do I even begin…

  • It left my skin SO soft!
  • It cleared all the dirt and foundation from my skin, with absolute minimal effort (like less than 30 seconds)
  • It caused NO new breakouts and helped with the few I already had.
  • I’ve been using it for 2 weeks and less than 20% of the bottle is gone.
  • It completely tackled my “change of season dry skin” issues.
  • You can get it for under R100,00 on Zando (I know… Zando?? who would have thunk lol) and should you find it cheaper online, Zando price beats too 😉

In conclusion, the Nivea Micellar water is fast & effective in removing makeup and daily dirt. It hydrated my skin INSTANTLY without the need to use any moisturizer after application. However, it definitely needed more scrubbing to remove my waterproof mascara, but didn’t sting or burn my eyes whatsoever. It really is a great time saver, and for those of you who read my blogs or watch my YouTube videos will know that the less fuss, the more I’m willing to swipe my credit card lol.

These last couple of days have been incredibly taxing on my skin. Not only have I been more stressed than usual, but also, I have had more sun exposure than I would have liked. Plus, for anyone living in Johannesburg, the weather has been insanely tempremental and thus VERY drying on my skin.

Luckily for me, the amazing people of Rubybox hand picked me to be a part of their test & review campaign for the new BOOST! SKIN SERUM. Their range consists of various serums that fulfill various needs of the user;

  • SMOOTH – Exfoliates and reveals smoother skin.
  • QUENCH – Attracts and holds moisture to keep skin hydrated.
  • ENERGIZE – Vitamin B3 that energizes skin from within.
  • CLEAR – Combats problematic & oily skin.
  • GLOW – Scavenges free radicals, leaving skin brighter and more radiant.
  • CALM – Calms redness & irritated skin.

I got to pick two of these serums to test and BOY OH BOY what a difficult descicion to make, because literally every single one of the above mentioned had me incredibly intrigued. So after long deliberation I finally decided on the CALM & GLOW serum from BOOST!

*Boost was developed by Johannesburg Plastic & Reconstructive surgeon Prof. Tim Christofides*

I usually struggle finding products that work for me, because I have combination skin (oily & dry at the same time) and I’ve always thought that using a serum would make my skin even oilier. But I was COMPLETELY wrong, I feel now (two weeks later) like the serum has actually brought balance to my skin.

If I’m honest here, I really don’t have a fancy skincare routing (I know i’s terrible) but usually after a long day I am a wet-wipe and go type of girl.

I always have the Nivea make up remover wipes on my bedside table and that’s pretty much the just of that.

On the weekends when I have a little more time, I will maybe indulge my skin in a skin republic mask… MAYBE. As terrible as that may sound, it does and has been working for me and my skin for as long as I can remember.

When using the serum, I literally just continued with my wet wipes & applied the serum to my skin thereafter 🙂

When the package arrived, I was absolutely floored by the beautiful yet simple packaging. The box, as seen below, cased the two serums I had picked.

The elegant, simple to use packaging made me incredibly happy.

The first thing I did was smell them (of course). Those of you who know me by now will know that I am very sensitive to smell and my sinuses/hay-fever can easily be triggered by strange scents.

The CALM serum had a nice, simple, subtle smell to it. HOWEVER, the GLOW serum had quite a strong smell, that left me sneezing for 20-40 min after application. So I must be honest, I landed up using that one about once a week, and the CALM one daily ❤

After using the product for two weeks, I can definitely say that I did see results with the CALM serum from BOOST! and would definitely consider it and recommend it to friends.

My redness had gone down quite a bit, as well as any inflammation in my skin noticeably started to disappear.

As for the GLOW serum from BOOST! I myself would not be able to use it, due to the smell of it, however, the two or three times I did land up using it, I could see a slight difference in the appearance of my skin.

I definitely LOVED how the serum was absorbed by my skin and left my skin feeling supple and refreshed each time, and how a little bit of the product went an extremely long way. ♥

Stay matte – Liquid lip colours

So once again I’ve been ridiculously spoiled by Rubybox which I LOVE, because I am NEVER told by them how to react to a product, I get to be 100% honest.

They sent me all 12 RIMMEL LONDON Stay matte liquid lip colours to test out and I adored….. most of them!

The packaging is about a 7/10. It’s gorgeous, don’t get me wrong… but it’s quite difficult to see the name of the colours which could be a little bit of a pain when you are trying to find one that an awesome blogger (cough cough, me) suggested.

What I loved about the packaging is that it is very lightweight, it can fall a million times and the colour is practically a true reflection of the payoff on your lips.

This was about a 6/10 for me. The consistency was a bit thick for my liking, so it took a while to dry nicely. Once it dried it was perfect, but because I have such ridiculously dry lips already, it caked quite a bit throughout the day.

This was an 8/10 for me. Drinking my 100th cup of tea for the day, the transfer was as minimal as the first sip. Barely transferred when kissing hubby and didn’t smudge AT ALL. I pretty much adored these lippies specifically for the way it endured the torture test.

Overall, I was pretty happy with these matte lippies, they retail for R119,95 which is an absolute steal for the quality, and I would definitely invest a few bucks in this one

Whiter teeth? ELGYDIUM

Let’s face it, celebrities are damn near perfect!

The hair, the makeup, the clothing, but BEST of all the smile…

As per 99% of you who are reading this, I myself, have an absolute desire to have the whitest teeth ever, no matter the pain or the lack of enamel that goes along with that.

I have tried COUNTLESS attempts at achieving whiter teeth; coconut oil, strawberries, activated charcoal, sets that have cost me over R1000,00, YOU NAME IT.  So, recently, I was spoiled by RUBYBOX to test & review the new ELGYDIUM Whitening toothpaste, which of course I was ridiculously eager to do!

Once again, let me just mention that I have in NO WAY been paid by any company to advertise this product and therefore I get to be as intensely honest as possible 🙂

Screen Shot 2017-10-24 at 4.07.06 PM.png

Along with the toothpaste tubes, I was given a schedule to follow which I had done to the tee…. I literally even took them with me to Thailand LOL.

I would use the ELGYDIUM Whitening toothpaste twice a day, for two days, and on the third day I would use the ELGYDIUM Brilliance and Care toothpaste. This cycle I repeated up until the 30 Day mark, thus completing the test.

These two toothpastes worked FANTASTICALLY together and I could literally feel that every time my gums started getting irritated by the whitening toothpaste, the next day would be the brilliance and care toothpaste which immediately made my gums feel calm and healthy again. The ingredients were already enough to let me know from the get go that I would love this range; Sodium Bicarbonate (In the whitening toothpaste) and Bamboo Silica (In the brilliance and care toothpaste).

Personally, I am not a huge fan of the taste, they both had a strange/different taste. But hey, beauty is pain, so I put my big girl panties on and felt with the flavour 🙂

Secondly, I also felt as though my teeth needed to be brushed more regularly as the plaque buildup happened a lot more frequently than I am used to.

But apart from those two cons EVERYTHING ELSE is a PRO. It completely delivers on it’s promise, it doesn’t promise to “clean” your teeth. It promises to “Whiten” them, and this it definitely did! After the first use my teeth already appeared whiter and they have been steadily whitening throughout the process. Another Pro, is that these babies are SO cheap for teeth whiteners and are available at any clicks pharmacy, so SUPER CONVENIENT to get with your monthly groceries.

If you, like me, have a desire for those pearly whites, I definitely would recommend that you give these goodies a go ♥

Soap can be awesome?

Dettol Eventone Pomegranate Soap

Screen Shot 2017-10-01 at 7.08.34 PM.png

So for the last two weeks I’ve literally only been using this soap that I received from RubyBox. I never thought in a million years that I would be blogging about soap…. I mean surely all soaps are ultimately the same… soap is soap is soap?

This soap has entirely become my favorite of all times, it’s so strange because I’ve always preferred liquid soaps to bars, but now I cannot imagine EVER using anything else (and no I haven’t been paid to say this, I haven’t been paid at all lol).

The first time I used this soap, the exfoliation aspect AMAZED me. It has , get this, crushed apricot shell in it… I mean? Who even thinks of this. I’d love to meet that genius one day 😉

Least to say it was the most pleasant surprise because after my shower I was planning on putting on my self tanner so that I could start building that “glow” for our Thailand trip (which we just came back from two days ago).

Screen Shot 2017-10-01 at 7.37.00 PM

The smell of this soap is just so beautiful, it truly smells like something you’re supposed to eat… but obviously don’t do that 😉

After our 18 hour flight to Thailand, the very first thing I wanted to do was go and have a loooong bath with this soap, and of course it was the very first thing I packed in my bag. And that’s exactly what I did.

It was so delicate and soft on my skin, I literally used it ALL OVER. Even on my face, every morning and evening and my skin has truly never felt better. I am SUPER in love with this soap. I’m pretty sure that anyone who tries it will fall head over heels as well.

To say the least, my skin was absolutely ROCKING in Thailand.

Itchy Pup, Unhappy Mom…

So I’ve only recently realized that I haven’t introduced the worlds cutest puppy to you guys yet, so here goes…

Her name is Olive and she truly is the worlds cutest breed, a miniature schnauzer.

We got Olive at ten weeks old and she was such a blessing from the get go, easy going and perfect in nature.

We had her on the best brand ( a very well known brand, which I will not mention here, because up until now I am still 99,9% sure that this was not the cause of the problem I am about to discuss).

One morning, when Olive woke up, I noticed her behavior was quite different. She seemed down and was scratching and biting at her thighs every now and then. My husband was laughing at me, because it got to the point where I thought that she might be missing her mom and dad…

As the day progressed so did the behavior, up until the point where Olive was scratching more than she was walking, scratching until she toppled over, scratching until her hair was falling out in huge chunks (which might I add was extremely unsettling because the schnauzer breed is known for hair that does not shed whatsoever).

I immediately jumped onto the google train, trying to figure out what it could possibly be and how to solve it, as it was now extremely late and all vets & shops were closed. Google summed her problem up to either something she ingested eg. food, or something she had come into contact with eg. bee sting, plant, etc.

I immediately assumed the latter. Olive has this habit of rolling around in the garden, tracking mud into the house, smelling like a mint bush.

Google said to give her allergex (half a pill) if we had it on hand, and so we did. She fell asleep for about an hour which was an extreme relief to my husband and I, because just before that she could not close her eyes for more than 30 seconds without crying and starting to scratch again.

However the allergex was just a VERY short term solution.

To say the least, this mom was awake the entire night all teary eyed at the idea of my baba in so much pain as I could hear her scratching and crying away.

The next morning my husband and I sat around waiting for the shops to open and were the first people in as soon as they did, when we found the holy grail….

We bought Olivia the Regal Skin Care Remedy, which is a sauce/oil that your pour over your dogs food and it fights any skin allergies your dog may have, a little goes such a long way and we still have some left in bottle a month or so later.

We also bought her the Regal Skin Healing Shampoo, which we are still using up until today to bath her with. It leaves her skin and hair silky soft and itch free. The best of this was that it healed Olives scratch wounds in a matter of two days (using only one wash).

Lastly, we bought the Regal Skin healing spray, which left her hair a little hard to the touch but that did disappear after a day or so.

Once we returned from the shop, we immediately put all of Olives bedding and toys in the wash. We then proceeded to give her a bath with the shampoo and afterwards we put the healing spray on her (loads of it). Straight after that, Olive cuddled on my legs whilst laying on the couch and fell asleep. NOTHING felt better than that moment, she slept for three hours straight and when she awoke, all she wanted to do was play and we could not have been happier at that very moment. Her tail was up again…. oh yes I forgot to mention that throughout the whole itchy scene, her tail was curved downwards in-between her legs.

That night we put her sauce over her food and she absolutely devoured it as though it was a treat to have had.

This range, was absolutely our hero that day. It truly changed my puppy in a matter of 30 minutes. Honestly we are SO grateful and would recommend this to ANY pup/dog mom or dad with an itchy pup, and after my search to find the solution, I noticed that this was a common concern for many dog owners.

Hope this can help someone else in future.

Glampalm – Pretty frikken amazing 😍

For those of you who prefer watching the movie to reading the book… here you go

Glampalm Unboxing Video ❤️

I must be entirely honest, I’ve never really considered using a Glampalm before.

However,  I decided to enter an Urban Sass Instagram competition where the prize was a Glampalm Straightener & Curling wand, and as luck would have it, I won.

The hair tools arrived soon after they announced me as the winner and what followed next was pure amazement.

The packaging was SO insanely gorgeous, truly breathtaking to say the least.

Along with the straightener came a super cute clutch bag and these beyond amazing stickers that one applies to the straightener for a “treatment” effect on your hair. It’s also ideal for straightening your hair if you have product on your hair, because while treating your hair it ALSO protects your straightener from getting product build up.

I honestly LOVE Glampalm now, I am so sold on their brand… I actually feel like it’s my absolute preferred brand at the moment.

So for those of you that are in the market for a new straightener, I would most definitely recommend this brand.

My hair felt like silk after I straightened it, so shiny and healthy. 😍

It was just too good not to share with you beauties.
